I'm taking a break from our trek across the country to just update our friends and family on what is going on with the Hones. It is difficult for me to get excited about writing about our travels that happened 4 months ago. It is difficult for me to even remember what happened 4 months ago!
Since we have moved to Utah, we have fallen hopelessly in love with our home. It doesn't look quite like the picture above anymore. We've added some beautiful blue backsplash tile and some furniture and clutter. But, we finally got to test it out last weekend when we had friends and family over to celebrate Campbell turning 7 years old! We had 3 nights of birthday celebrations and felt like we had a great house for entertaining. Plenty of room for everyone and still felt warm and cozy. We are still trying to unpack and get settled so everything is still a work in progress but it definitely feels like home!
We miss our friends in Florida and Grandpa Tony. The kids miss their school and I miss the heat. But we are slowly but surely finding our place out here.
Coleman is doing well in school and has joined the chess club. It means waking up at 6:30 on Fridays but he is excited about it so I will drag myself out of bed to help him get ready and get there on time. He has been enjoying cub scouts and will receive his wolf badge at the next pack meeting.
Campbell is now 7 and has become quite the prankster. He loves to stir up his brothers and sister. We are often having to discuss limits of teasing with him but he has likened himself to "The Joker" thanks to Lego Batman Wii.
Thanks to her brother Campbell, Addison has begun to read. I found them sitting up in her bed one night and he had made a list of words that she knew and words that she didn't know and they were reading a book together. By the next day, she was picking up book after book and trying to read them. She is sounding out words and clamors to read books all day long. She is in a new preschool and is thrilled to go to school three days a week.
Cooper is exhausting! The little artist in him has come out as he has colored and marked up the walls in every single room in our new home. He has moved to his own bed in his own bedroom upstairs and for the most part stays up in his room for the night. He is wearing the same clothes he wore a year ago - which really means that at 9 months he was wearing 2T clothes. The only problem is now his head is gigantic and even the 2T's are too small to get over his noggin. He talks ALL the time - but it is really just one word that he repeats over and over. "NO!" He says it as he screams. He says it as he is falling asleep. He says it when you ask him a question. He says it as he holds your face and gives you a kiss. He says it when you touch him. He says it when you pretty much do anything. He still has the chubbiest cheeks, tight curls and deep dimples. He climbs on anything and everything and has discovered the stove which luckily has a safety guard for children like him. He has also discovered knives which unfortunately don't have safety guards. No matter where I put them, he climbs to find them and he always grabs them from the dishwasher.
Cooper gave us two scares in the last couple of weeks. The first was that he got some Mavala that is used to paint your nails so that you won't bite them. It has been known to make people throw up when they taste it and it is nasty sticky stuff. Yeah - Cooper put it in his eye! He was screaming and crying and I was sure we were headed for the ER terrified of what it was doing to his eye. I held him over the sink while Marc syringed out his eyeball and we called Poison Control. Mavala has cayenne pepper and citric acid in it so it is no wonder it was burning his eye but he was fine.
Just a few days after that lovely night, we were getting ready for bed after bathes and Cooper was standing on the cedar chest at the end of our bed. Somehow he slipped and as he fell, he hit his head on the decorative edge of the foot of our bed. I picked him up and felt his head and felt a large lump from where he hit. As I pulled my hand away, it was covered in blood. I started to yell for Marc, convinced we were once again heading for the ER. Cooper struggled against the washcloth to clean him up but we were able to stop the blood and decided that an attempt to go to the hospital would result in MUCH more trauma for both Cooper and myself.
Work is going well for Marc. It is still very much a roller coaster with its ups and downs but each day gets him closer to a more even keel. He is teaching Sunday School to the youth in our ward and loving no early morning meetings. I am the Bear Den Leader in cub scouts and getting excited for Coleman to be a Bear in a couple of months. The kids have all begun piano again. Cooper thinks he takes piano and has to "practice" each day like the rest of the kids.
Well, that is a brief update on the life and times of the Hone Family. I will keep attempting to stay updated on this blog but what can I say? Life gets the better of me - quite often.
